Now I feel all warm and fuzzy...

I just love these stories!

From the discussion section in The Art of Coloring Comics:

"My name is Jessica, I'm a 23 year old aspiring colorist and for the last year I've hit a roadblock where I was stuck looking at tons of tutorials in books and online to help me achieve my goals only for them to get me no where.

That all changed when I signed up for your fantastic courses. I have learned so much the past few days and wanted to thank you for helping me learn the skills I've been trying so hard to replicate from my favorite comics.

I finished this rendering of Power Girl tonight and wanted to share my improvements. I'm very passionate about being a colorist and these new techniques have lit a fire for me to push myself to be a better artist."

2014: Year in review

2014 has been my best year coloring comics by a long shot. It's not even close. This probably explains it most succinctly:

# of projects by major publishers prior to 2014: 0
# of projects by major publishers in 2014: 5
At the end of 2013, I had 513 YouTube subscribers on my channel.
At the end of 2014, I have 5,237

What else?! I launched an online coloring course here: http://learn.comiccolor.com It's gone far beyond my expectations. All the feedback has been great, and I'm trying to decide what to do with it next! I'm considering a second, more advanced course, but I put so much stuff in the first one, the content would be heavy! I'm still debating on that...

So what's coming?! I have a few mini-series lined up if the pitches get picked up, but my goals for 2015 are pretty simple:

1. Another Image or Dark Horse miniseries. I'm a huge fan of what both companies are doing, and it would mean a lot to get work on a mini for either one.
2. One Marvel image. Just one... doesn't matter what... a fill-in page, a short, an ad, the front of lunch box.  A full Marvel issue? I'll make that a 2016 goal. Baby steps, right?

Have a great 2015, everyone. Thanks so much for reading, watching, subscribing, following, liking, and whatever else you did in support of this crazy business.

Hack/Slash original art from Emilio!

I plan on doing a blog post for my 2014 "year in review" soon. It's been a big year for my coloring career, and Hack/Slash was a major milestone in so many ways--my first monthly, my first Image title, my first mini-series.

So when our penciller/inker Emilio Laiso started selling original art from it, I ordered the first page immediately. It arrived today with bonuses!

He also sent very issue of the series signed by himself and our art director and cover artist, Stefano Caselli!

Coloring course testamonial

I just received this note from a student that recently completed my comic coloring course at learn.comiccolor.com

"This is some of the best money I've ever spent. Could’ve paid twice as much and it would’ve still been worth it."

If the course was a book, I think i'd put that on the jacket!

Some big news is coming soon regarding some new projects. Stay tuned!

New project! STEELE VS #1: DEAD HORSE TRAIL

Hey, I'm happy to announce that I'll be coloring the first issue of STEELE VS #1: DEAD HORSE TRAIL! You may remember that I also did #0 a few years back, so it's nice getting the band back together!

The writer/creator is Scott R Schmidt and the artist is Slobadan Jovanovic. This issue was funded as a successful Kickstarter campaign a few weeks ago.  Looking forward to it!
